Hear a whole story.
Our Mia example uses Moonlight, a studio narrator. A family voice will sound different.
Read & listenA recording or generated narration?
Keep your exact reading, or let an app narrate new text.
| Choice | You record a reading | An app generates narration |
|---|---|---|
| Effort | Read the whole story aloud. | Verify your adult voice. Review each draft. |
| Keeps | Your exact performance. | Generated delivery, which may differ from yours. |
| New story | Record another reading. | Request new narration. Check its cost. |
How to record a bedtime story yourself
Use your phone’s voice recorder for this method. It is separate from Goodnight From Me.
- Try one sentence first. Choose a quiet room, record a few words and check that your voice is clear.
- Read the complete story. Use a story you wrote or have permission to record. Pause when you need to; a small stumble can stay.
- Save it and check playback. Give the recording a clear name. Test it on the device your family will use, including without internet if that matters.
Can Goodnight From Me read new stories in my voice?
Yes. Once your adult voice is verified, you do not record every story yourself.
- Set up your voice. The adult voice owner completes consent, recording, verification and a sound check. Children cannot enroll a voice.
- Read and approve the story. Review the AI draft before choosing narration. Check names, events and anything your child might find upsetting.
- Choose narration and listen first. Select your verified voice and check the displayed cost. Leave time for generation and for checking the finished audio.
Before you choose
Do I have to record my voice?
No. Choose a Moonlight or Storybook studio narrator instead. Free Classic Tales have their own studio recordings and need no family voice setup.
Does it sound exactly like me reading?
Generated narration may handle emphasis, names and emotion differently from you. A recording of you reading preserves that specific performance. Our studio sample is not a family-voice comparison.
What should I check about cost and consent?
Check voice setup, new narration, replay and membership terms separately. The app shows the cost before you continue. The voice owner can revoke consent and use the app’s voice-data deletion options. See Help & FAQ and the App Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
Can I prepare a story for a night I’m away?
Prepare it in advance, review the words, listen to the audio and check it on the device that will be used. Saved recordings support offline listening; new stories and narration require a connection. A live call or your own recorded reading may suit a personal message better.
